Hello my beauties, here comes a new “At Our Fingertips” product review. We all love a good makeup remover, so this week we are going to review one that is both popular and pricey to see if it is worth spending the extra money for a makeup remover.

Product: Oleo: Moist Active-Encapsulated Cleansing Oil Gel By Shu Uemura

They say : This unique gel texture transforms into oil, and effortlessly removes all impurities and heavy make-up contains unique combination of vitamin e capsule and Japanese muguet herb to protect moisture loss thoroughly purifies skin, resulting in moisturized complexion and petal-soft skin texture..

How to use it: Pretty much the same as you would any make up remover – you apply to face and massage with water to pick up make up, dirt, and debris from the skin.

step 1: take appropriate amount of oleo:moist cleasing oil gel (about the size of a 50 cents coin) onto the palms of hands and gently massage over face.

step 2: with wet hands, massage some water onto face to emulsify. repeat for a few times.

step 3: rinse thoroughly with water.

I Say: I have to say, my daily skin cleanser is from Shu Uemura, and I’m totally in love with it! I love using oil on my skin whether it is to hydrate or to remove my make up. My skin tends to be drier than dehydrated (oil lacking rather than moisture lacking) so I love the feel of oil. I was looking forward to this make up remover and was excited to try it. It promised a gel textures that sort of turns into oil and I have to say, it keeps its promises. For me, the texture felt a little bit weird at first but I got used to it. It glides on but did not soak into my skin the way an oil would. It just sort of stayed beaded up.

It does do a good job of taking make up off both eyes and skin and since it’s oily, your skin does not feel “tight” afterwards (which I hate). It does feels kind of balanced as well. What I didn’t like was its perfume!! The smell was overpowering and had kind of a “plastic” like odor. And though it really does its job, I personally don’t like its texture. I didn’t “feel” totally clean afterwards. So I’ll keep on using that one that I got.

Erika says: I received this in a package from Thora and it was one of the products I was excited to try because of the potential. I don’t love face oils – I find them greasy and overwhelming. My skin is more dehydrated than dry, and I like water based make up removers. Shu Uemura is a well known Japanese brand that specializes in oils for the face. It was one of the first brands to advocate oil cleansers and has been a leader in that front, so it makes sense that if anyone can make a cutting edge oil cleanser, it should be Shu. I was looking forward to this because it is advertised as a cream with the oil encapsulated rather than straight oil to the face. Encapsulating that oil means that it is less likely to have that immediate grease feel of oil.

However, I found this encapsulation just made it feel like cream and oil for a thick greasy film. It spreads across the face and as I was wiping, the small beads were essentially melting. I paid attention to the directions and since I did not dispense too much product, it was ok. I can easily see how too much product would have had oil and cream dripping. It did work well and my make up was removed. My skin was not tight nor was it too greasy afterwards. It was prepped and ready. It just did not feel fantastic during the process. I still like micellular water better (which has a similar premise of encapsulating oil to help remove make up before cleanser).

Overall Note: 2/4

I say: though it does what it promises, it does not replace their sublime cleansing oils.

Erika Says: It works and if you love oils, it has a similar feel despite being advertised as more of a cream approach. However, the result just does not justify the extra cost. I still love my micellular water for use as a make up remover!

Hope you enjoyed our review. Till next time
