SPF's are like dating - there are too many out there, it is confusing, and when you find the right one, HOLD ON TO IT.
How to find the right one for you!
The sun has finally reappeared, and we are in the full swing of summer. While some people run away from the sun, I still embrace it. Enjoy festivals, outdoor sports, and LIFE! Just do it… but do it with some sun safety.
Let’s look at some SPF basics that can help you pick out the right one! Regardless of the sunscreen, always look for BROAD SPECTRUM to make sure you protect against UVA and UVB rays.
There are two types of SPF’s
Chemical – this type absorbs the sun’s rays and uses chemical compounds to neutralize them. It is lighter and blends well into the skin. They are usually the commercial sunscreen we see everywhere.
Physical – this type reflects the sun’s rays or scatters them about to deflect - these usually don’t blend well into the skin and can leave a white or pasty look. VERY ATTRACTIVE. But, they are considered healthier because of the lack of extra ingredients and are an excellent choice for vegan and organic cosmetic lovers.
Here are some new and innovative sunscreens this season to try:
BEST OVERALL DEAL – the Sephora Sun Safety Pack for 2018. Released in April, the sun safety pack is my annual must have Sephora purchase. Each year, it highlights special and new sunscreens in large travel sizes. This year, for the same price, you also get a full size Lancome SPF. It is a mixture of physical and chemical sunscreens with some advanced approaches. The 2018 pack has an invisible sunscreen, a mousse, and a compact just to name a few. Sold out online, it is still available in some stores

HOLY GRAIL SUNSCREEN – when someone asks me what the BEST sunscreen is, I recommend Elta MD with no hesitation. They have no smell, easy to use, and paraben free. They also come in formulations meant to address specific concerns ( hylarounic for aging, oil free for acne). They feel and look great!

BEST FOR SENSITIVE/REDNESS - Clarins Sun Care Cream High Protection SPF 30 for Sun-Sensitive Skin, 4.3 Ounce. This amazing sunscreen is nmeant to nuetralize redness and help protect the skin from further damage. It is a chemical sunscreen with an SPF 30 making it a great addition to the make up bag (and we all have more room in our make up bag, right :P )

MOST FUN - Not new, but still fun! Does anyone remember Zinka? This once popular colored physical sunscreen is still on Amazon for purchase. This is a colored physical sunscreen. It is great for kids or just on your nose as a fun switch up. I used something similar recently for a musical festival to make a design on the face. Looking ridicolous is half the fun of dressing for a festival! Like all make up and skin care, SPF can be fun too 😊

What sunscreens are you using? Whatever you are using – GOOD! Keep using sunscreen and enjoying the beautiful summer.
