GYLCOLIC SPRING GLOW
Spring is almost sprung and we need a refresh and reset for our skin. The Spring 2020 collections gave us some amazing looks and skin was definitely a highlight. One common theme that I saw in each collection on the models and their skin was the Euphoric effect on skin. Having shiny, shimmering angel skin is never new, but the elevation this past season is what separates it. Between the silver meteorite fallings during the Fendi show and Pat McGrath created Valentino show, we saw a lot of drama, a lot of glitter, and a lot of pink. How does that translate to skin care and setting our skin right for Spring?
We treat it with products that glow us the fuck up.
PEELING AWAY TO PRINTEMPS
I live in Seattle Washington where we have officially not had a sunny day since Nov 30, 2019. I love the rain and all it brings, but I am looking forward to Spring for a few reasons (hello, short dresses with no rain boots!). One of them is the chance to highlight all the work I have been doing this past Winter on my skin. Winter is usually the season of peels and treatments because of the lack of outdoor time (usually). This is an old way of thinking and honestly I do and get treatments throughout the year, but since I have had the time this past season I have been hypervigilant.
If you have not had a chance to do a peel or a deep treatment this past Winter, right now is the perfect time before Spring arrives. One of my favorite peels that is wonderful for all skin types (including sensitive) is a glycolic peel.
Glycolic is derived from a sugar molecule and is a AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid). Chemically, this is a really small molecule and it penetrates the skin ,helping to break up and loosen dead skin cells. When dead skin cells sit on our face (fascinating I know but stay with me…) they give our skin a dull appearance. Glycolic peels help to remove all of that away while also stimulating collagen production in the process. WIN/WIN
PRODUCTS
If you don’t have a chance to see an Esthetician for a Glycolic Peel….rethink your life. While you wait to see to see that Esthetician, you can use some products that contain glycolic to help you start on the process.
Full disclosure, I work freelance with this brand. That being said, I would use this whether or not I have ever worked with them. This gentle once a week treatment has low level glycolic and is combined with natural botanicals. It is a simple and fresh way to add a resurfacing treatment for brighter skin. It is also free from parabens, mineral oil, phtalates and formaldehyde (common ingredients in more active skin care lines). It is a simple swipe on a dry face and can easily be added to any nighttime routine.
This is one of my all time favorite products. I use it in my facials, after microneedling, and in my own skin care regiment. It contains a Glycolic Acid, Mica Jojoba, Panthenol, Alpha Hydroxy Acids , Antioxidants ,Titanium Dioxide and a touch of Salicylic Acid. It is great for dryer, more mature skin that wants to work on not only glowing up the skin, but also wants to target other skin concerns like hyperpigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. The combination of ingredients is a n excellent blend for addressing several skin concerns at once. It is used as a serum, once daily, after moisturizer.
This green product is a mask and exfoliating treatment that can be used up to three times a week. It has a great fusion of oils and glycolic. Glycolic can be drying and the squalene in this mask helps to add lipids to the skin while still taking care of dullness. In their clinical trials, researchers that participated showed 100% improvement in overall skin texture. I love how it smells on the skin and how it gives me a chance to have a masking time. While it is nice to be quick and efficient, I sometimes love taking a moment and just paying attention to myself.
As soon as the rain stops and I am out of these Hunter Boots, I promise to post some selfies showing off my glow. And I want to see yours!
Send us your photos before and after a glycolic treatment and we will share them!
